Children aged from 4 – 12 years are invited to come along in their pyjamas with a pillow and or favourite toy keen to learn some new strategies to help them sleep better at night. The special class was as initially run as a result of feedback from our regular students and their parents saying how sometimes it can take them a long time to get to sleep.
During the one hour long pyjama yoga session, we establish and practice a bedtime routine which begin with discussing the positives and negatives of their day and a small (or big!) achievement of their day. We chat about the best time and way to do this so that we are not restless with crowded thoughts from the day.
After reflecting on our days, we experiment with some breathing techniques. We learn massage skills by giving and receiving a massage to reduce stress and tension from our day. They are encouraged to practise their new massage skills on their parents at home.
Some final strategies we practise to help us relax our bodies while in bed trying to sleep which the kids practise cuddled up with their pillow and teddy or blanket. This is where we see the most yawns!
